A Service of Unity in Diversity
A special Northaven worship service, Sunday
September 25th
Plan to be in worship on Sunday, September 24, as
Northaven members celebrate the diversity of our church, and lament the
exclusion of our society. Our Church in Society and Worship Commission have
created a special worship experience, intended to be a spiritual response to
this Fall's "hate vote" on an anti-gay marriage amendment to the Texas
Constitution.
Our Public Witness
Commission plans to make a public response to this dangerous and divisive
constitutional amendment last this Fall. However, before making a public
witness, it was decided that Northaven should first turn inward, spiritually,
take care of "our own," and prepare ourselves for the struggle
ahead.
To that end, the service will
feature a litany of lament, the witness of two Northaveners, and the lighting of
candles of hope. The lament will focus on the continuing injustice and exclusion
of both the church and our society. The witnesses -- Shirley Cooper; and Jack
Evans and George Harris-- will share their personal stories of both inclusion
and exclusion. And Northaven families will be invited to light candles of hope
as a witness to our own diversity, and our hope that the world might come to
embrace a similar diversity one day.
Plan
to be in worship for this special time this Sunday!
