2nd Pledge Campaign Letter
2006 "Living Our Faith Pledge" Campaign

October
5, 2005
Dear Fellow Northaven
Member:
As Commitment Sunday nears, we
want to provide you with some important information about how Northaven United
Methodist Church plans to use its resources in
2006.
Enclosed is a summary of the
proposed 2006 expense budget and a comparison to the 2005 budget. The total for
the new budget is $622,000, which is a 15.9 percent increase over last year.
Reaching this goal means our vital mission and ministries will continue to
thrive as we pay the cost of the new building in accordance with our long-term
financial strategy.
In order to fund
this budget responsibly, we need pledges of about $505,000, an increase of about
9.8 percent over the pledges to the 2005 budget. The remaining $117,000 of the
total amount is budgeted to come from other sources, such as open plate
collections, special contributions, Co-Op School payments and building
rentals.
As we mentioned in our earlier
letter, the proposed budget means an increase in the amount of giving among
renewed pledges and an increase in the total number of pledges from 150 to 166.
Every pledge is important.
But this
isn’t just about reaching a financial goal. We believe that making a
pledge and fulfilling it is an important part of our spiritual life – it
is one way that we participate in God’s purpose at Northaven.
As you prayerfully consider making your
pledge to the operating budget, we encourage you to also consider a pledge to
the Human Development Fund. For the past 34 years, this fund has supported
community and international outreach activities for our church. Contributions
during 2004 helped fund grants in 2005 to 22 organizations totaling more than
$43,000.
A pledge card and envelope are
enclosed. On Commitment Sunday, October 16, you will have the opportunity to
place this card in the altar basket. Or, if you prefer, you can mail it to the
church. We need to receive as many cards as possible by Oct.
30.
Thanks for all you do for
Northaven. If you have any questions, please contact one of us.
Sincerely,
Bob
