A Resolution Requesting Reconsideration of Judicial Council Decision
#1032
A unanimous vote of our annual Charge
Conference
Northaven United Methodist Church protests
the ruling of the Judicial Council in its Decision 1032. As a congregation of
United Methodists in the North Texas Conference, we believe that this ruling is
wrong; it contradicts the slogan of "open hearts, open minds, open doors," and
therefore denies the true spirit of Methodism. An individual willing to take
the vows of membership should not be rejected on the basis of a single pastor's
discretion.
We, the members
of Northaven United Methodist Church, believe there is sufficient precedent in
previous Judicial Council rulings to allow the Council to reconsider its ruling
in this matter. Therefore, we call upon the Judicial Council to reconsider this
case and reverse its ruling. Our denomination's integrity demands
it.
Passed unanimously by
the Charge Conference of Northaven United Methodist
Church,
November 15,
2005.
Rev. Larry George,
Dallas-Denton District Superintendent
presiding

Conference Secretary, Regina Shields
