Amahl and the Night Visitors
Pictures and publicity from Northaven's
production

By
any measure, Northaven's two performances of "Amahl and the Night Visitors" on
Jan. 15 were a rousing success. The 5 p.m. show was a sellout and the 7 p.m.
show nearly so, and both were capped by standing ovations. A large number of
ticket-holders were first-time visitors to Northaven, and we hope we'll see
some returning to worship with us. Additionally, representatives from the
Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas and the Dallas Women's Chorus attended and
were able to see (and hear) for themselves what our new space offers. The
production received advance coverage in the North Texas edition
of The United Methodist Reporter, and we're
looking forward to even more coverage in upcoming editions of Park
Cities/Northside People and The Dallas Morning News' "Neighbors" section that's
delivered to North Dallas
readers.Thanks to heroic
behind-the-scenes efforts, both our permanent stage and our theatrical lighting
were in place for the production. Before each performance, the new
computerized lights were put through their paces, and audiences were treated
to quite a light show. Many thanks go out to the dozens of people who made up
the cast, orchestra and production crew who brought "Amahl" to
life.The following photos were taken
during dress rehearsal and at the 5 p.m.
performance:
Amahl's
mother (Virginia Dupuy) anguishes over how she will be able
to care for her
son.
Amahl
(Truett Davis) tries to cheer his
mother.
Amahl
gazes at the star over
Bethlehem.
King
Melchoir (John Holbert), King Balthazar (Nathan Myers) and King Kaspar (Elias
Hendricks III) arrive at the door of Amahl and his mother. (Hendricks, a
student of Virginia Dupuy, was a last-minute replacement for Frank Stegall,
who was unable to perform because of a death in his
family.)
Amahl
pesters the kings with questions after their surprise
appearance.
Villagers
bring gifts and dance to welcome the three
kings.
King
Melchoir offers a song of compassion after Amahl's mother is caught
stealing.
The
Chorus of Shepherds sings glad tidings after Amahl's miracle.
