Northaven's Website
Interesting factoids about website use in
2005
Now that we can look back at all of 2005, we
thought it would be interesting to show you some facts about our website and its
overall use by the public. What can be said with certainty is that visits to the
Northaven website increased dramatically as the year
progress.Total Website
VisitorsJust under 12,000 total "unique
visitors" came to the Northaven website during 2005. The monthly average was 999
unique visitors. What's interesting to note is the dramatic increase in website
traffic during the second half of the year. As you can see from the graph below,
beginning in July the number of visitors began increasing dramatically and never
dropped again (it's assumed that December's numbers will be lower because of the
holidays...)
Sermon
DownloadsAs you know, Northaven uploads
each week's sermon to the Northaven site. And
almost as interesting as the increase in total visitors, is to note the number
of times sermons were either downloaded or streamed. Sermons were downloaded or
streamed just over 4,000 times last year. The monthly average came to 337
streams/downloads. As with total website visitors, you can note that the second
half of the year brought a notable increase in these
downloads.
Finishing
the Journey DownloadsAs many of you will
remember, Northaven published a book called "Finishing the Journey," ahead of
the United Methodist General Conference in 2000. The book continues to be
available in both paperback form, and on the
Northaven website. We have known for some time that the book continues
to be used by study groups and individuals around the country, who are studying
the issues of homosexuality and the
UMC.The book is organized on the
website by chapters. (In other words, the unit we can measure is the download of
individual chapters...) We can report that chapters of "Finishing the Journey"
were downloaded almost 4300 times during 2005. The monthly average was 358
chapters downloaded per month. Given the fact that this book was published six
years ago, and is that Northaven does absolutely no ongoing promotion of the
book. It's popularity appears to be sustained by word of mouth, and the positive
reviews of those who have read it
previously.
