Sanctuary Etiquette
Some gentle reminders from our Worship
Commission
The Northaven community continues to be moved and
inspired by our new sanctuary, and worship in the space has been a meaningful
part of our lives for the past few months. However, the Worship Commission would
like to remind you of some issues of etiquette and appropriateness regarding the
use of our new sanctuary during
worship.
Food
and drink of any kind are never appropriate at any
time. Because the sanctuary is a sacred
and holy space, we ask that you refrain from from bringing food or drink into
the sanctuary. Our new Atrium space is designed for fellowship, both before and
after worship, and we encourage you to keep your food and drinks
there.Please turn off your
cell phones during worship. Northaveners
are usually pretty good about doing this, but we have noticed a few phones going
off in the past months, and wanted to remind you about
this.Please refrain from
using the interior stairwells during worship, unless directed by the
ushers. Clearly, these stairwells are
helpful during communion, or other times when our community needs to move within
the space, but if you are simply leaving the space, please exit through the
exterior door closest to
you.Please consider
entering or leaving only during certain times of the
service. It can be very distracting when
persons are moving about during times of silence, prayer, or quiet spoken word.
If you can wait to enter and leave the sanctuary during a hymn, or during a time
when the congregation is standing in unison, it will be far less distracting to
others. The Worship Commission thanks you for
considering all of these ways in which you can be considerate of others, and
enhance the sacredness of our time together each Sunday.
