featuring the Chancel Choir and soloists. The end of the service features the
ceremonial "stripping of the church" in preparation for Good
Friday.Good Friday Worship:
April 14; 7 pmTenebrae, or
"service of darkness," will feature eighteen scripture readings tracing Jesus'
last hours, with candles and lights extinguished gradually. Music by the choir,
organ, instrumentalists and soloists will provide meditative responses between
the readings. Our new sanctuary provides a beautiful and creative setting for
this extremely meaningful service of
worship.Holy Saturday Easter
Vigil: April 15; 5 pmLed by
Shannon Hamrick and Bill McElvaney, this meditative service follows the movement
of Holy Week. Jesus' death on Friday moves into the resurrection on Sunday. On
Saturday, Jesus is buried; it seems that the end has come. As people of faith,
we know that new life is coming, and that God is still present, even in the
tomb. In the "tomb time" God continues to work in us and love us, making way
for resurrection, even when it appears that nothing is happening. This time of
waiting in faith prepares us for the new life that comes in resurrection.
Saturday's service will offer an opportunity to join in community and reflect on
where we have been in our Lenten journey, where we are now, and God's presence
with us in the activities and in the tomb time of our lives. Come on Saturday
to worship, reflect, and wait upon
God.Easter Sunday Worship:
April 16 11 amNorthaven will have
one service of worship on Easter Sunday, in an attempt to join our
community in a single, large celebration of the holy day. The service will
include Northaven's traditional "flowering of the cross" by our children, as
well as festival music by organ, bells, brass and choir. All who enjoy singing
Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" will be invited to come to the choir loft and join
in the singing! There will be no Sunday School on Easter
Sunday.
