Blessed Be the Tie
A Gathering to Celebrate and Promote the
Black Tie Dinner
As mentioned in a previous blog, Northaven UMC has been
selected as a 2006 Black Tie Dinner Recipient. Northaveners are invited to
celebrate the church’s selection as a beneficiary for the 2006 Black Tie
Dinner at a party on July 23 hosted by Valinda and Rick
O’Connor.The event, from 6 to 8
p.m., also is intended to help church members learn how they can participate in
this important
fundraiser.
Northaven
Church was selected as one of only 17 local recipients of money raised at the
Black Tie Dinner, which will be held Nov. 11. The annual gala raises funds for
the Human Rights Campaign – the country’s largest civil rights
organization working for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality –
but half the funds generated stays within the Dallas community. Last year, the
dinner raised more than $1.2
million.“This is an incredible
honor for the church,” says Ron Bobbitt, the chair of Northaven’s
planning committee, “and it’s a testimony to the role we’ve
chosen to play in this human-rights issue. Hopefully, we’ll be able to use
this income to really help widen our reach and make a greater impact.”
As a beneficiary, Northaven is required
to generate a certain amount of ticket sales, raffle-ticket sales and volunteer
hours – our way of giving back to the Black Tie Dinner’s generosity.
Tickets are $300 each, raffle tickets (for a BMW roadster) are $100 each, and
volunteers are needed to help work behind the scenes at the Black Tie
Dinner. You can learn more about the
November event at the July 23 party at the O’Connor residence at 9036
Stone Creek Place (north of the Greenville-Royal
intersection). If you plan to attend, or
for more information, please contact Ron Bobbitt at 214-987-0292 or at ronbobbitt@yahoo.com.
