New Organist Hired!
Christopher Anderson
The Organist Search Committee and the Staff Parish
Commission are pleased to announce the hiring of a new organist, Christopher
Anderson!
Chris moved to Dallas this summer to assume
the newly created position of Associate Professor of Sacred Music at SMU, where
he will lead the program with Michael Hawn. His PhD from Duke is in Organ
Performance Practice, and he joins the SMU faculty in a tenured
status.
Chris played a remarkable audition for our
committee, and was equally effective in an accompanist role during a Wednesday
night choir rehearsal. His interview with the committee was impressive, as he
talked about his vocational need and desire to be rooted not only in
"ivory-tower" academia, but also in the "real-world" environment of church
music. Perhaps the most impressive quality about Chris is his unassuming and
unpretentious demeanor, which is even more significant considering his academic
and professional credentials.
Chris and the committee agree that the
part-time position at Northaven is a good complement to his full-time position
at SMU, and that the time requirements for preparation, rehearsals, and services
are realistic. While at his former academic post at the University of North
Dakota, he served a local congregation in a similar part-time organist position.
Chris and his wife Lisa have purchased a home in Richardson, where they will
live with their three-year-old daughter Erica.
This recommendation comes from a unanimous
decision of all members of the committee and the advisory members. Chris will
join us for the first time when we resume choir rehearsals on Wednesday night,
August 23rd. His first Sunday service will be Sunday, August 27th.
Please join us in welcoming
Chris!
