Allen Ross Freedom Parade
Northaven Needs Your
Help!!!
Hello All! I wanted to provide you all with an
update on the first Annual
Northaven UMC
participation effort for the Gay/Lesbian Pride Parade &
Rally.
Northaven will have an information table at Lee Park for the Pride
Gathering there from 12-6, and we need
volunteer to help cover that. We will have
informational brochures and water bottles to
give away from there. I am hoping
to have at
least a couple of people covering three 2-hour shifts from 12-2,
2-4, and
4-6.
Northaven will also have a float in the
parade. We are float #85! I also
need
volunteers to help decorate the float, which will take place on Saturday
afternoon (9/16), probably about 2pm, but I
don't have an exact time
confirmed yet. The
float will be staging along Wycliff, from Maple Ave. facing Cedar
Springs. I need volunteers to ride &/or
walk along with the float for the
parade. We
will be gathering at the staging area, space #85 - you'll need to
know that - around 1:00 for to get organized
and settled, for the parade
start time of
2:00. It will run down Cedar Springs to Turtle Creek and stop in
front of Lee Park, where everyone will
disembark. I will have a cooler of ice
and
water on the float to keep everyone hydrated for the event.
If anyone
wants to take on the challenge or arranging a car pool for the
event to Lee Park, that would also be
wonderful, since parking will be at a
premium.
My greatest hope is to have a real presence in
the parade, as diverse a
presence as
possible, to demonstrate God's love really is a gift to us all and
counter the much more damaging message that we
hear in God's name. If you want
to help with
any/all of the above volunteer needs, please contact me as soon
as possible, so I'll know to call you with
further information and updates
and can
schedule shifts at the information table, etc.
In Peace and Service,
Kati
