Christmas and New Year's Worship at Northaven
Information on our special worship services
during the holidays
Make plans now to attend our services on Christmas
and New Year's Eve. We will have three services of worship on Christmas Eve. Our
morning service will be the final one in our Advent "Season of Peace." We'll
light the traditional Advent Wreath, and prepare our hearts for the coming of
the Christ Child.
That same evening, we
will have Christmas Eve services at 5 and 11 pm. The 5 pm service will be a
"family friendly" service, led in part by Vicki Cheatwood and Mark Daves. It's
the perfect service for young children and families, and will again feature an
interactive retelling of the Christmas story. Virginia Dupuy will sing an anthem
as a part of the service.
The 11 pm
Christmas Eve service is becoming a rich tradition for many Northaven members
and friends. It will feature Christmas Eve communion, and the singing of many
favorite Christmas choruses. A more quiet and meditative time, it's the perfect
prayerful way to bring in Christmas Day. Please note: there will be no child
care available for this service.
Both
Christmas Eve services will conclude with the singing of "Silent Night" and the
traditional lighting of candles. Those who were present last Christmas Eve will
remember what a moment of reverence and peace this is in our sanctuary in the
round. You won't want to miss it!
Also
plan now to be present on New Year's Eve for Sunday morning worship. A classic,
year-end, United Methodists tradition is a for congregations to share in John
Wesley's service of "Covenant Renewal." Our Sunday morning worship this day
will be a modified version of this tradition, featuring the time-honored
"covenant prayer" written by Wesley.
During the hustle and bustle of the
holiday, it's important to remember that, at its heart, the season is about
remembering the holy message of Christ's birth. We hope and trust that you will
be eager to share this joy with the Northaven community, and that you will
invite your many family and friends to come with you. We have had large crowds
on both of the first two Sundays of Advent, and are please that these have
included many visitors and guests.
We
hope you will make your plans now to celebrate the season in
worship.
