Ash Wednesday
February 21, 7 pm
The holy season of Lent kicks off this coming
Wednesday evening, with a traditional Ash Wednesday service of worship. In
addition receiving the traditional ashes of the day, worshippers will be invited
to release something in their lives to God that has been holding them back.
Worshippers will write down a specific issue, behavior, or conflict in your
life, and then bring it forward to be symbolically burned.
After burning away what blocks us from
God, we will receive the ashes as a reminder of our mortality, and of our
commitment to make the Lenten journey
together.
The Choir will sing the anthem
"Return to God," by John Helgen. The text of this anthem is what has helped us
set our theme for this Lenten season.
Return to God from wayward
ways
and crossed with ash the
threshold cross
into the
desert wilderness.
There at
your will these two score
days;
Seek out the dry, a
spring awaits.
Seek out the
plain, there angels care.
And
in the sere and barren air discern the passion under
all:
God's voice, "Return, I
love you still, I love you still, I love you still."
