FeastFest 2007 Follow-up
A short summary of the weekend and video
retrospective
The weekend of September 14-16 was a landmark at
Northaven United Methodist Church. Anyone who attended any of the concerts,
visual art activities, book sale, or dramatic production can testify that this
was more than Feasts of the Beginning in the past; but the energy, creativity,
and excitement that charged the atmosphere made it worth the effort and raised
expectations for future feasts. Without everyone's hard work and contributions,
this would never have happened.
Among my
fondest memories of last weekend are Donna Wiles decorating buffet tables that
rivaled Martha Stewart’s best efforts (and doing a mean hip bump), Tom
Karges flying around with his hair on fire, and Frank Stegall everywhere at
once, doing heavy lifting and providing so much
support.
And then there's the image of
people seated at tables in the sanctuary absolutely transfixed by the music and
united in a wonderful common experience. Freddie Jones, Eric Folkerth,
Rick O’Connor, Jack Kennedy, and Richard Newton making unforgettable music
and discovering new acoustical splendor in our sanctuary. And Linda Noblin doing
a side splitting turn as a big fish in “Jonah and God.”. Then
there's Joan Hogge and her hoard of artists painting a mural of the Northaven
Creation Tree, books coming in by the boxes and leaving the same way, and
incredible art created and donated by Northaven's exceptionally generous
and talented collectors and
artists.

Northaven
was like “the little church that could.” We took on an ambitious
project, planned and worked hard, and found that the total was greater than the
sum of its parts. We introduced newcomers to our church, created dynamic art for
our upstairs gallery, and brought professional musicians and actors into our
sanctuary. We enjoyed fellowship, devoured sumptuous desserts, and raised money
to help support our library and arts programs during the coming year. It seems
as if we addressed all of the demands asked of us as a church community in our
current Habits of the Heart stewardship
campaign.
We invested presence, gifts of
talent as well as money, service in many forms, and—for many of
us—fervent prayers to help Northaven be all it can be. We’re still
totaling revenue and expenses. Stay tuned for a future announcement. And thanks
to everyone who cooked, painted, emoted, moved tables, served the public,
donated contributions, and helped put Northaven’s best foot
forward.
Ellen
Key
Thanks to all who worked so
hard to make FeastFest a great success. Thanks especially to the Worship
Commission, Ellen Key specifically, and our staff and many
volunteers!!!
