Good Friday Walk
by Kim Bachelor
In the ritual of Holy Week, even in the midst of
profound ritual
and reminders of Jesus’
suffering, death, and resurrection, his
teachings are rarely emphasized in many
Christian churches
during this time. On March
21, the Dallas Area Christian
Progressive
Alliance--an alliance of grassroots Christians,
clergy and theologians--for the third
consecutive year is
sponsoring a Good Friday
Walk that focuses on those teachings. This year’s focus
is, “The last shall be first and the
first shall be last.” (Matt. 20:16)
The
Church in Society Commission, as a co-sponsor of the Walk, urges
Northaven members to participate as members of
the walk or to join the walkers
at the
reflections that will end the walk. Walkers will gather at Lakecliff Park, on
Colorado Street just east of I-35 and south of
downtown, at 10:15. Walkers will
make the
pilgrimage across the Trinity River into downtown Dallas, pass the
Federal Building and convene at Ferris Plaza,
Houston at Young Street, arriving
between
11:30 and 11:45 a.m., to participate in a final reflection and reminder of
the resurrection to come.
