Quaker Songwriter/Activist playing at Uncle Calvin's on April 18th at 8 pm

Carrie Newcomer will be performing April 18th at Uncle Calvin's [9555 North Central Expressway].

The show, celebrating the release of her new album on Rounder Records, The Geography of Light, will begin at 8:00 p.m..   In recent years Carrie has become a powerful musical voice for progressive faith and practice, working extensively with other progressive spiritual authors and musicians.

Parker Palmer wrote, “Carrie Newcomer deals with themes so close to my heart that I have written hundreds of pages of prose about them. But Carrie unfolds these themes with such remarkable poetry, tunes, and rhythms—and with such a compelling voice—that she helps me understand my own experience at new depths.”

One of Carrie's songs ("Be True") has recently been included on a compilation CD ("Out of the Extraordinary") benefitting ELCA clergy who have lost their jobs after coming out as gay, lesbian, or bisexual. Carrie will be donating 10% of the proceeds from the tour sales of her new album to the American Friends Service Committee.
