Carrie Newcomer in Concert
Quaker Songwriter/Activist playing at Uncle
Calvin's on April 18th at 8 pm
Carrie Newcomer will be performing April 18th at
Uncle Calvin's [9555 North Central
Expressway]. The show, celebrating
the release of her new album on Rounder Records, The Geography of Light, will
begin at 8:00 p.m.. In recent years Carrie has become a powerful
musical voice for progressive faith and practice, working extensively with other
progressive spiritual authors and
musicians.Parker Palmer wrote,
“Carrie Newcomer deals with themes so close to my heart that I have
written hundreds of pages of prose about them. But Carrie unfolds these themes
with such remarkable poetry, tunes, and rhythms—and with such a compelling
voice—that she helps me understand my own experience at new
depths.”One of Carrie's songs ("Be
True") has recently been included on a compilation CD ("Out of the
Extraordinary") benefitting ELCA clergy who have lost their jobs after coming
out as gay, lesbian, or bisexual. Carrie will be donating 10% of the proceeds
from the tour sales of her new album to the American Friends Service Committee.
