Northaven's
Housing for Evacuee Family(new information as of 9.13.05)
Northaven UMC is assisting an
evacuee family in setting up a new apartment in the Dallas area. This family
lived through the trauma of the New Orleans Convention Center, and is now
attempting to rebuild their lives in
Dallas.Ernest and Barbara are the
parents, with their two adult children, Denise and Jackie. Jackie has been able
to transfer to SMU (from Xavier College) for her senior year. Denise is a
teacher who is currently looking for work in a Dallas area school. Denise has
two children --a nine-year-old girl, and a eleven-year-old boy-- who also live
with the family.A three-bedroom
apartment has been located, and the children have been enrolled in a
neighborhood school. However, there are many household items needed before they
can actually move into the apartment, and leave the hotel where they have been
living since Katrina hit. And there are some volunteer tasks that would also be
helpful in the next few
days.Here are the pressing
needs for this
family:Items

queen bed.Two mattresses for bunk beds (frame

members created more than 170 health kits for the evacuees. However, these items

to Evacuees: There is an immediate need for
both. It is very likely that many of the persons coming to Dallas may never
return to their cities, or may be here in Dallas for an extended period of time.
The City is looking to compile a master list of persons who have jobs or housing
that they can offer to persons. (The period of time to be determined by you).
The church volunteers at the Convention Center will attempt to match that
information with the needs. If you have jobs or housing that you can offer a
family, email Northaven here.4.
Volunteer your van and you as a driver: (NEW
REQUEST) We have been told that there will be an urgent need for vans and
drivers to get people around the city to appointments with various Dallas area
agencies. If you can volunteer with this, call Eric at the church:
