Information on Upcoming Programs and Ministries

Even though Northaven’s musical groups are taking a break from summer rehearsals, there will be plenty of music to inspire and enhance our worship experience during the next several months.

The adult choir will take off the final three weeks of June, but Valinda has wonderful musical offerings in the works during that time.

John Thornburg, bringing to Northaven his "Ministry of Congregational Song", kicks off our summer music in worship events with the service on Sunday, June 10. He will lead us in a service entitled, "Singing With Our Whole Being". The focus will be on music across the centuries, across the styles, and across the globe!

Then, during July and August, Northaven’s Summer Singers will tune up. If you’re interested in commitment lite, i.e., no Wednesday rehearsals, you can show up at 10:30 on Sunday morning and learn a quick anthem for the service that day. Who knows, you might enjoy the company and choral endeavors so much, you could opt to continue in the fall. Either way, you’re most welcome this summer.

Here are a few musical highlights to watch for:
June 10 John Thornburg will lead music in worship.
June 11-16 Imagine God! Summer Worship & Arts sponsored by the Dallas Chapter of Choristers Guild. This spectacular opportunity will be available for all children from grades 3-6 and will take place at Northaven. Registration is still available. The camp takes place Monday through Friday with a closing presentation of the musical Saturday at 10 a.m. Round up the children and grandchildren for this one.
June 19 American Guild of Organists’ Regional Convention Hymn Festival in Northaven’s sanctuary starting at 9 a.m. The fest will be led by Joel Martinson and John Thornburg and will also feature choir, brass, and timpany from Church of the Transfiguration.
September Watch for news about an arts festival that will coincide with the Feast of Beginnings. If approved by Northaven’s Worship and Arts Commission and Program Council, the festival will include a fun-filled weekend of food, art, music, and drama, ending with Jonah, a play written by Vicki Cheatwood.
November 2 First concert of the Jane and Elbert Marshall Concert Series, featuring Gail Archer, organist at Barnard College in Manhattan
November 11 Wesley Hymn Festival, led by Michael Hawn, Christopher Anderson, Valinda Woods O’Connor and the Northaven Choir, celebrating the Tercentennial of John Wesley.
