Rainbow Stoles at General Conference
by Shirley Cooper
If you are going to the General Conference of the
United Methodist Church in Fort Worth you will probably see many people wearing
rainbow stoles. The Reconciling Ministries and Parents Reconciling Network have
sponsored the making of 2,000 stoles for the event and Northaven has been part
of this. We agreed to make 50 stoles. The fabric was purchased in New York and
mailed to groups throughout the country. When we received our material for 50
stoles our clever, talented leader, Carolyn Melton, figured out a way to make 70
stoles!
So one afternoon in January there
were 12 women hard at work stitching, pinning, trimming, turning, and pressing,
and because they were such delightful people, we all had a great
time!
Thank you, Carolyn Melton, Nancy
Vasquez, Jeannette Crawford, Marlene Haskell, Cynthia Shinoda, Norma Terrell,
Jane Johnson, Frankie Giesler, Mary Lowrance, Winnie Kaspar (Elmwood UMC) and
Grace McFerren (First UMC Dallas.)
When you see
the rainbow stoles at General Conference April 23-May 2, remember that they
represent the deep desire of the wearer for a fully inclusive United
Methodist Church. Remember too, that some of those stoles came from
Northaven.
