The Move is ON!!!
Thoughts from Eric about our move this
weekend
Dear Northaven
Friends:I write this message, surrounded
by an office full of packed boxes and newly exposed household dust. In the other
room, Holly and Valinda are packing the final boxes in their office stuff too.
Faithful volunteers have been here all week, packing up classrooms and emptying
drawers and closets. The Coop Teachers and parents have been busy at their end
of the building too. The movers are scheduled to be here tomorrow (Friday) to
move the "big stuff." And, as I was writing this message, Kelly Smith called to
inform us that we have a final "green tag" from the City Building
Inspector.In other words,
THE MOVE IS
ON!!!By the time you arrive
Sunday, most everything Northaven owns --except for some chairs for Sunday
School, and the contents of the temporary sanctuary-- will be in our new
building, awaiting our ceremonial arrival during worship that
day.All this necessitates several
reminders to you:WE NEED YOUR
HELP SATURDAY!As you know, Saturday is
the "big move day," where we're counting on many church volunteers to come help
us move the many boxes that are stacking up everywhere. We'll begin early that
morning, and work much of the day. I have been instructed to tell you that there
will be childcare available during the morning hours. (Until we need to
move all the nursery stuff!)If you're
still in need to details about the Move Saturday, and how you can help, please click
here.There will be a light
lunch provided, and our children's ministry will be providing Starbucks Coffee,
as they attempt to raise money for the children of
Haiti.Sunday at
NorthavenI keep making this joke
about Sunday. The joke is that it's going to be a...ahem...moving worship
service.I am certain of it, and I mean
that every way you can. During our worship, we'll ceremonially move our
sanctuary and ourselves to our new building, concluding there with the singing
of a hymn and the giving of a blessing. You won't want to miss it.
Email, Internet, and
Phones:It is quite possible that
our email/internet connection at the church will be down for several days during
this move. You can still deliver email to our staff throughout the move, and
many of us will be able to check our messages remotely at home. But, if we don't
write you back right away, please just know that it could be because of a delay
in getting the internet re-established here in the
offices.Our understanding is that the
phone system will switch over tomorrow (Friday) and there should be little
interuption in phone service.As I
mentioned in an email last week, there is lots of good information at our
church's blog about our move and the weeks to come. There are two specific
entries on the blog about "what to expect" as we move in the
building. You can read the first here , and the second here. Additionally, I have blogged a little
about "soft openings," and I hope you'll read those thoughts here
.---------------------------Just
about an hour ago, I took down a picture of groundbreaking service from
September of last year. You will remember how we processed out on to our lot,
and gathered in a circle where the new sanctuary was to soon be built. Sunday,
we will gather in that space again, and give thanks to God for the grace and
gift of our new building.I look forward
to seeing you then.Eric
FolkerthPS! A non-building
reminder:I have been asked by those
attending to Jim Wallis lecture tonight at King of Glory Lutheran, to ask you to
park at the Greek Orthodox Church at the corner of Hillcrest and Alpha. Shuttle
buses will transport you to and from the lecture location.
