Holy Week follow-up
And looking ahead...
What an incredible Lent/Easter season we had here
at Northaven Church! Using the theme “At One With God,” we took a
moving journey through this traditional season, ending up with a crowd of almost
400 sharing the glory of Easter Sunday.
Palm
Sunday featured a procession of palms that included not just children, but every
person in worship that day. Thursday night’s “Feast of Grace”
was a highly interactive “teaching worship” experience, shared
around tables in the sanctuary. Everyone who attended commented on the creative
use of our sanctuary space. Friday night’s “Tennebrae” service
was again quite inspiring, and allowed worshippers the chance to pray in the
garden at its conclusion. The Saturday service of waiting was attended by many
new worshippers.
No holy season at
Northaven can happen without the work of many, many people.
Special thanks to Valinda and our Music and
Arts Ministry; the bells, orchestra, choir, and soloists. On every Sunday, and
especially during the Schubert Mass, we were reminded again of how blessed we
are in this area.
Thanks for our
hard-working Worship Commission, who not only planned out the theme for the
season, but also worked on every small detail along the way. Special thanks to
our table leaders for Thursday’s worship, our readers for Friday’s
service, and Shannon Hamrick and Mary Lowrance for their leadership on
Saturday.
Thanks to the Children’s
Ministry and volunteers for organizing our processions on Palm Sunday and
Easter. And, finally, extra special thanks to Tom Kargas, Donna Wiles, and
Michael Ekbladt. They each spent countless hours, working to make our worship
space transition from death to life. Tom’s visual eye, and Michael and
Donna’s incredibly faithful leadership of that commission have been a true
blessing to us all this year. I hope you will each thank
them.
Because Easter was so incredibly
early this year --the earliest any of us will ever experience-- we are blessed
with almost two more months of Spring. Unlike many Springs, when the period
after Easter marks a drop-off in activity, you could argue that our Spring is
just getting started! The coming weeks will see a celebration of the Feast of
Friendship, Earth Day, Reconciling Ministries Sunday, Confirmation Sunday, Youth
Day, and many more. Also, our long anticipated General Conference will happen
just west of here in Fort Worth.
So,
please watch this newsletter carefully for news on all these upcoming events.
