Northaven's Consecration Service
March 19, 4 pm
Plan now to attend the consecration service for
Northaven's new sanctuary, on March 19th at 4 pm. A consecration service is a
traditional service, intended to mark the completion of a new church building,
and usually done soon after a congregation moves into a new space. In our case,
although we moved in several months ago, our construction has been
ongoing.
But, our construction phase
draws to a close, symbolized by the reinstallation of the Roy Redmon organ. And
so, now is a good and right time for us to celebrate Northaven's
consecration.
Our Bishop, Rhymes Moncure,
will be present that day to deliver a short meditation, and participate in the
prayer of dedication. In addition this, every living pastor from Northaven's
past will be on hand (as well as family members from some of our pastors no
longer living). Our District Superintendent, Larry George, will also be present,
as well as many other Methodist dignitaries and leaders of the
community.
The worship service will
include a grand processional featuring the Northaven Movement Choir, clergy and
Northaven Sanctuary Choir. The worship experience will also feature the Joyful
Noise Orchestra, the Ringlieders, and an anthem written by Jane Marshall
especially for the day.
The prayer of
consecration will be one of the central worship elements of the day, as we pray
God's blessings upon the new space, and ask that it be used to the glory of
God's realm, and in ministries of justice, peace, love and inclusion. There will
also be a special time of recognition for the members of the Northaven Building
Committee.
Moments like this do not come
along very often in the life of any congregation. So, we trust that everyone
will want to make a special effort to be with us on this historic day, and
participate in this memorable service of worship.
