A Message of Thanks
To Northaven: From Bill and Nancy
Holmes
Dear
Friends:Sunday, March 19th is as close as we
will ever come to disproving the adage: "You can't go home again." We never
dreamed that such a building would one day be constructed on that corner. It is
absolutely the right "skin" for the Northaven community of faith, and its
creative, versatile design will serve a variety of venues now and in the future.
But what finally gives the building its integrity is the congregation and the
identity you have forged over the last 50 years. Refusing to allow Northaven to
become a "haven" in north Dallas, you have kept it in the vanguard of advocacy
for justice issues in the larger community, while demonstrating love and
unconditional acceptance of each other in your life together as a congregation.
It was a great honor for us to be present, and for Bill to participate in the
service of
consecration.
And
then for that Sunday fall also on the day that Bill had been invited to preach
in the morning, was a coincidence that made the day even more special for us.
Although we left Northaven 40 years ago, you welcomed us "back home" with a
hospitality we continue to savor and will never forget. Seeing old friends from
so long ago was as great treat to us, while meeting and making so many new
friends was a "bonus" we will always treasure. The new building is exceptional
in every way, but like every "house" the people within it make it a "home." We
will always be grateful that you made it our
"home too on that extraordinary
Sunday.Nancy and Bill
