The youth ministry here at Northaven UMC is committed to being an open community of faith for youth in grades 6 through 12. We strive to be an inclusive group of all persons regardless of race, sexual orientation or economic status.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)

UMYF meets every Sunday night from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the church. It is a time of fun, fellowship, understanding, and worship. We eat dinner at 5:00, play games, and then have a time of reflection or discussion. UMYF is open to all youth in the 7th through 12th grades.

In addition to regular meetings, there are mission projects every other month. These include such things as gleaning in East Texas, working at the North TX Food Bank, participating in the 30-Hour Famine, and a Christmas Mission Project at a nursing home. We also have large programming activities on the other months, including: lock-ins, swim parties, a Halloween party, a Super Bowl party, and more.

Mission Trips

Every summer, the youth of Northaven embark on a weeklong mission trip. This summer we went on a joint Jr. High and Sr. High trip to Houston. On June 10 to June 15 we held a Vacation Bible School for underprivileged children. We also performed construction work on a dilapidated home in the community. We also had several worship services and went to a Houston Astros game.

We also do various mission projects year round. This fall, we are creating Good Neighbor Kits.  These are plastic bags filled with toiletries, socks, non-perishable snacks, gift cards, and other items to help out the needy. If you'd like to donate items for these kits, or if you'd like to pick one up, contact Richard in the office.

Sunday School

The Sunday School class for grades 7-12 meets every Sunday morning from 9:30-10:30 AM. Three teachers team-teach this class and it's a blast. They discuss current issues, their spiritual journeys, struggles in everyday life, and much more.

Confirmation Class

Confirmation at Northaven UMC is during the 6th grade. We meet during the Sunday School Hour (9:30 - 10:30 AM). It is a wonderful time of exploring our church history, our common faith and our spirituality. Each participant is assigned a mentor, offering her/him another person of faith to discuss her/his journey with.
