Northaven seeks part-time organist/pianist (approx. 10-12 hours/week)
Who we are: Northaven United Methodist Church is a progressive, reconciling, historically significant, justice-seeking congregation which values creative and inspiring traditional style worship. Our music ministry includes opportunities for children, youth and adults to sing, ring, and play instruments in worship. Our worship services are designed and planned by a team of staff and volunteers throughout the year. In addition to our weekly Sunday morning service (11:00 a.m.) we hold a few seasonal evening services throughout the year (Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve). Our sanctuary is home to the Roy Redman, Opus 7 (1973), 36-rank tracker organ, electric stop action, two manuals. The sanctuary has excellent acoustics.
Who we are seeking: an experienced part-time Organist (and pianist) to be part of this vibrant music ministry and supportive congregation. Candidate must have excellent sight-reading and accompanying skills, previous church experience, knowledge of a broad spectrum of musical styles, and a desire to encourage congregational singing through creative hymn playing, arranging and/or improvisation. Vocal and/or handbell experience is a plus. Bachelor of Music degree required (Master’s preferred). Duties include playing for one Sunday morning service each week (11:00 a.m.), accompanying weekly adult choir rehearsals (Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.), accompanying solos and ensembles for worship, playing for funerals and weddings, and approximately 4 additional worship services throughout the year.
Salary commensurate with experience and education.
