Volunteer Opportunity – Fall Festival at Jack Lowe Elementary School

Big Changes For Trunk Or Treat!

For the past several years, Northaven has hosted a community Trunk or Treat event for the children of our church families and the local neighborhoods. This year, we’re taking Trunk or Treat to Jack Lowe Elementary School! The costumes, the candy, the games— they are all coming with us to the Vickery Meadow neighborhood and the students we are committed to serving.

Jack Lowe Elementary school hosts an annual fall carnival and is in need of help this year, and we’re eager to be there to support them! The carnival will be Saturday, October 27, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. They are being supported by both Northaven UMC and Park Cities Baptist churches. We’ve been asked to bring candy and prizes for the carnival games and volunteers to run the activities the children will be enjoying so that the teachers can be free to move about the event and act as monitors. There will be thousands of students and families in attendance!

We’re asking for your help in two different ways, and hope you’ll select at least one of them to help make this carnival successful. First, donate candy or prizes (temporary tattoos, plastic rings, small toys, pencils and erasers, crayons etc…). Second, volunteer to work the carnival for part of the day or the entire event. As a carnival volunteer, you’ll lead a game that the school will set up, collect tickets from the students, and give away prizes. Volunteers are encouraged to wear costumes but it’s not required. You can sign up for a volunteers shift either here or in the Atrium on Sunday. Candy and prizes are being collected in the Atrium on Sunday as well, or during the week in the church office. Please turn in all donations by Friday, Oct. 26. Thank you.

The school has been awarding tickets to students as a reward for good behavior, grades, attendance, etc. Additional tickets will be on sale for students and neighborhood children to purchase. All monies raised will benefit teacher appreciation week later this school year. Church families who wish to bring their children are invited to buy tickets for games. Park Cities Baptist will be providing bounce houses and zip lines for entertainment. It’s going to be a great carnival, and we look forward to being a part of the work of Jack Lowe Elementary!

If you have any questions, contact LauraMay George. This event is being sponsored by the Church in Society Committee and the Northaven Youth.

He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
