United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)
All youth group (UMYF) activities are open to youth in 6-12th grades.
A Sunday evening opportunity for youth fellowship, service, mission, and community. UMYF begins with a snack supper, followed by programming and games that allow the youth to build friendships, learn about their faith and serve others. Northaven’s youth group is a combination of junior and senior high students that allows for peer-mentorship.
The youth group participates in regular service projects; sometimes at Northaven and sometimes in the community. An annual favorite is the Feed My Starving Children project. We also served dinner for Project Transformation, have helped at Jack Lowe Elementary school, North Dallas Shared Ministries and marched in the Alan Ross Freedom Parade! We take an annual mission trip as well. In 2018 we attended Heifer Project in Perryville, Arkansas. In 2017 we served at Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso, Texas. In 2016 we helped at various sites in Biloxi, Mississippi.
In the spring the youth lead the worship service at 11:00 a.m. The new confirmands are encouraged to join the youth in leading the congregation and we also recognize our graduating seniors on this special day. Youth Sunday is an annual tradition is a favorite of the youth group!
The youth also attend both Jr. and Sr. High camps at Bridgeport Camp and Conference Center. Junior High camp is for students who’ve completed 6-8th grades; Senior High camp is for students who’ve completed 9-12th grades.
Youth Sunday school meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. There is a class for 5-7th grades, and for 8-12th grades. Beginning in the fall of 2018 we’ll be starting the Re:Form curriculum.
