A Way Forward

The Commission on a Way Forward was proposed by the Council of Bishops and approved by the 2016 General Conference to do a complete examination and possible revision of every paragraph of the Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and explore options that help to maintain and strengthen the unity of the church.

The General Conference will meet in St. Louis on February 23-26 to continue their work on “a way forward.”

There will be three worship services at Northaven related to the called General Conference in St. Louis on February 23-26 as follows:

Sunday, February 17thThe Ministry and Message of Reconciliation

On this Sunday before the start of the special called session of General Conference, Marti will provide an overview of where we are as a global denomination, asking the question, “Can we stay together in the midst of our differences and still have integrity?”  We will focus on God’s call to the ministry of reconciliation.

Sunday, February 24thA Kyrie for the Church and an Alleluia for God

Marti will be attending the General Conference as an observer.  Rev. John Thornburg will lead a worship service of prayer, readings and music.  Our purpose will be to “place ourselves in the presence of the God who loves us and who gave us the gift of community” in a time when our denominational future is fragile, but our future in God’s love is certain.  Please be present to hold one another in the peace that passes our understanding.

Sunday, March 3rd – Post General Conference Direction

9:30 – Conversation on the Results of General Conference 2019

11:00 – Worship the God who will be with us on the journey…on the mountaintops and in the valleys.
