WAYS TO GIVE
While there are many ways to give, outlined below are a few ideas to consider as you evaluate your giving capacity and consult with your financial advisor and/or CPA.
-
Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and exchange traded funds (ETFs) can be transferred to the church brokerage account. Long term appreciated securities have tax advantages if gifted directly to a charity.
-
Consider using a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA if you are 70 ½ and older. For 2025, a gift from an IRA of up to $108,000 per year may be made tax free. Another option, beginning the year you turn 73, all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution may be given to charity. Both QCD and RMD options may reduce your annual income level which could lower Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security subject to tax.
-
Used to aggregate funds for future charitable gifts and typically funded with long term appreciated securities, contributions to a DAF may offer tax advantages. A charitable deduction is allowed in the year that funds are transferred into the DAF and can be disbursed to any number of qualified charitable organizations.
