Rev. Mike House, Associate Pastor

Three Irregular Squares - Blue, Green, Red

Rev. Mike House grew up in the small college town of Commerce, Texas, and has lived in the North Texas area all his life. With a BA in English (Texas A&M, Commerce; previously East Texas State University), and a MTh from Perkins School of Theology, SMU, Mike was ordained a United Methodist elder in the mid-80s, and served churches in the North Texas Conference of the UMC for around 30 years. He retired early from active ministry in 2012, came out of the closet, and worked for a while as a bookseller at Barnes and Noble.

Mike is excited to be appointed by the Conference to Northaven's staff as a part-time associate pastor as his full and authentic self, no longer with the restrictions of the closet. Northaven is an important place to Mike, as it has not only been his church home, but also the place where he celebrated his marriage to Cody McMahan in 2017, and Cody's memorial service after his death from cancer in January of 2023.  Mike’s major role as associate is assisting Pastor Ann Willet with pastoral care and other ministerial tasks, including occasional preaching.

Mike enjoys working with people of all ages, and loves preaching and teaching, utilizing his loves of literature, the arts, and theology.
